Canadian Midwives for Life and our members affirm the following:
It is self-evident that all human beings, by virtue of their humanity, are entitled to human rights, and these rights must be respected.
At the moment of fertilization, a new living human being comes into existence who is distinct from the mother.
As midwives, we recognize that throughout the course of a pregnancy we have more than one human person in our care, and we bear the medical responsibility for both mother and pre-born child.
Targeting and ending the life of a pre-born human for any reason is a violation of human rights and contradicts a midwife’s responsibility for the health of her client.
